Program Overview
The profession of Addictions Counseling is continually growing with a vitality that presents challenge
and rewards to the individual professional. Alcohol and Other Drug Counselors help individuals who
suffer from addiction by assisting them to identify behaviors and address problems related to their
addiction.
The Alcohol and Other Drug Counseling program at Pacific Coast College, prepares individuals from a
variety of disciplines to become qualified addictions counselors. Instruction is in residence with facility
occupancy level accommodating twenty five students at any one time. A Diploma is awarded for
successful completion of the total Class.
Prospective enrollees are encouraged to visit the college to discuss personal and occupational plans
with school personnel prior to enrolling.
Library
The college maintains a number of reference books, magazines, videos, presentation packages and
other pertinent publications for use by faculty and students. Reference materials are kept for use on the
school premises many of the books relating to Criminal Justice and Alcohol and Drug Counseling are
available free of charge from government offices and clearing houses. Students may also take books
over night with prior approval from the Registrars office.
The library is open everyday during school hours. All students have access during school hours. The
individual faculty members provide guidance as to what books and materials are required.

variety of disciplines to become qualified addictions counselors.
The program challenges the student to develop the knowledge, clinical skills and self-awareness that
are unique to Alcohol and Other Drug counselors. The program provides a solid and practical foundation
of classroom education in conjunction with supervised clinical work.

- Crisis intervention
- Substance abuse identification methodologies
- Substance abuse treatment modalities
- Substance abuse prevention
- Treatment resources
- Pharmacology
- Behavioral aspects of abused substances
- Introduction to criminal justice
- Treatment evaluation
- Client observation and education
- Professional standards and ethics
- Applicable law and regulations
All teaching staff are Certified Addictions Counselors.

Classroom Hours: Mondays and Tuesdays 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Classroom Hours: Saturdays 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Office Hours: Mon. - Fri. 8:00 AM to 5:30PM
